Whitefish Asbestos Abatement | What is Asbestos?

There is a lot of good information on the internet about asbestos. But there are still a lot of misconceptions.

Asbestos is a completely natural product. It requires very little work to make is usable in numerous manufacturing applications. It was very widely used prior to the late 70’s in a number of different applications up to and including cigarette filters!

Asbestos’s natural form is a fibrous almost stringy matrix which causes heath problems when inhaled since those fibers then get stuck in your lungs and aggravate them. Long term conditions like Mesothelioma and Lung Cancer can persist.

A large amount of asbestos was mined near Whitefish and Flathead County up in Libby. Naturally, being so close to the source there is quite a bit of asbestos to be found in our area.

Asbestos abatement is usually an expensive and in depth procedure. The entire goal of asbestos abatement is to protect building occupants from accidental exposure to the dangerous asbestos fibers.
